Imphal, December 22 2016:
Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) has strongly condemned the State Government and Central Government for the lack of positive action regarding solving the economic blockade issue plaguing the State.
Speaking to media persons at the party's office at Babupara, Ningombam Ibohal Meitei, LJP Manipur State unit spokesperson, said that the United Naga Council always has the habit of using economic blockade on the National Highways as a weapon for every demand thereby causing suffering and inconveniences to the people.
Strongly condemning the act, he recalled that even the Supreme Court had ruled such disturbances along the National Highways as a crime.
They do not heed such facts and are adamant with their demands which are debatable and continue to burden the people of the State regardless of their ethnicity, he added.
He pointed out that the economic blockade has created a rift among the communities which have coexisted since early times and even resulted in some unwanted incidents.
"Some dissatisfied sections of the people have even started counter economic blockade because they have had enough but both the economic blockade and the counter blockade are not the right way," he said urging the people to refrain from harbouring tit for tat mentality.
He also urged the Government to make some arrangements to enable the people from the hill areas to participate Christmas festival with their families.
The LJP will take part and support any steps to bring a solution to the issues plaguing the State.
"The Congress and BJP should stop their pathetic political games and instead focus on the real issues of the State.
The economic blockade has also changed from a public inconvenience to a dangerous agenda with clear influences of the NSCN (IM) which resulted in the recent deaths of security personnel in ambushes," he said.
The Government must try to solve this issue at the earliest instead of focusing on the coming State Assembly elections, he added.
Speaking about the UNC issue, LJP State Unit general secretary Athokpam Kishore expressed extreme disappointment with the Central and State Government for keeping mum regarding the UNC's economic blockade which began from November 1 .
"LJP had submitted a memorandum to Ram Vilas Paswan regarding the economic blockade faced by the State and is currently planning to submit another memorandum again", he said.
Dalit Sena president RK Somorendro was also present at the meet.
