Tiddim Road bandh suspended

The
indefinite bandh imposed along
Tiddim Road by the JC Tiddim
constituted against re-naming
Thangjing hill range as
Thangting in the process of
creating a new sub-division has
been suspended for 30 days.
A joint meeting of apex
civil society organisations in-
cluding UCM, AMUCO,
CCSK, Kuki Inpi Manipur,
Chiru Union, IPR, PANOM,
JC Tidim, Chingu Thangjing
Phamnaiba & Phamnaibi
Cheirap Loishang, Historical
Heritage Development Asso-
ciation Moirang, Kege
Moirang Apunba Lup,
Eramdam Kanba Apunba Ima
Lup and Ibudhou Thangjing
Laithel Lai Committee was
held today at at Ibudhou
Thangjing temple complex.
Among others, Parliamen-
tary Secretary (YAS) M
Prithiviraj, MLAs S Bira, and
Manga Vaiphei were also
present at the meeting where
it was agreed to suspend the
indefinite bandh for 30 days.
However, JC Tidim con-
venor S Kulla Mangang said
that they would resume their
agitation on the 31st day if
their demand is not fulfilled
within the next 30 days.
Speaking at the gathering,
M Prithiviraj said that the
Government would certainly
make all efforts to resolve the issue at the earliest.
He also appealed to all the people to refrain from doing
anything which may ignite tension and conflicts along communal
lines.
MLA S Bira said that creation of a new sub-division in
Thangjing hill range should not infringe into the territory of
Bishnupur district.
UCM president Johnson Elangbam decried that the authorities
never bothered to consult before re-naming or altering
name of such a historical place.
He also appealed to all the people living in Manipur to shed
parochial communal outlook.
