Dimapur, June 20 2018:
At the back of the June 17 ambush of the NSCN-K on the Assam Rifles that claimed the lives of some AR personnel in Mon district of Nagaland, the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) and Eastern Nagaland Peoples Organisation (ENPO), while strongly condemning the act, have asked the NSCN-K to shun violence.
Expressing concern NTC said such violence was a "total negation of the negotiation and peace" .
The NTC said that the June 17, 2018 ambush of NSCN-K on the Assam Rifles in which "3 soldiers were killed and 3 others injured at Mon district of Nagaland is found to be a total negation of the negotiation and peace".
According to the NTC, Nagas are now tired of tolerating violence be it amongst "ourselves" or between the Nagas and Government of India.
"This very act of violence is considered to be disrespectful to the popular desire of the Nagas for peace and progress.
The ambush is therefore condemned," the NTC stated.
According to the NTC, the ongoing negotiations for political solution are imperative for the Nagas at this juncture.
"The NSCN-K is expected to be humane and have a sense of respect for the efforts of fellow negotiators whose sole aim is to bring about sustainable peace to our land," it added.
The NTC urged both the "security forces and the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs)" to maintain maximum restraint at this stage and avoid all forms of offensive actions and provocations, and allow conducive atmosphere for genuine engagement to bring out lasting political solution to the protracted Naga political problem.
The NTC "sincerely appeals the NSCN-K to shun violence and look for the path of peace for the sake of peaceful co-existence".
In a statement, the Eastern Nagaland Peoples' Organisation (ENPO) and six federating bodies said they strongly condemn the June 17 ambush.
The ENPO also reminded all concerned regarding the December 18, 2007 "Tuensang Resolution" of the organisation and subsequent affirmations, wherein, the people of the ENPO area resolved to oppose any form of violence, threats, intimidation or bloodshed within their jurisdiction.
The ENPO appealed all concerned to maintain peace and honour the Tuensang Resolution in the interest of peace.
