Imphal, April 20 2016:
BJP MLA Kh Joykishan has urged Congress Ministers, MLAs and workers to demand resig-nation of Chief Minister O Ibobi and MPCC president TN Haokip from their respective posts as their close family members/relatives have been found involved in smuggling drugs into the State.
If the Congress Ministers and MLAs are reluctant to voice their disapproval of the Chief Minister and the MPCC president, it would be construed that they tacitly support smuggling of drugs into the State.
By doing nothing to control the scourge of drug abuse which has ruined the lives of a large number of youngsters, the Government exposed its alleged involvement in trading illegal drugs, Joykishan told media persons today.
Involvement of Okram Henry, a close relative of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, in smuggling a consignment of drugs which was seized from Imphal airport on January 11, 2013 has been confirmed by the charge-sheet submitted by CBI to Court on April 18 this year.
MPCC president TN Haokip's son Seikholen was also arrested in connection with a drug smuggling case a few years back.
Even though both the Chief Minister and the MPCC president have been feigning ignorance when their close family members/relatives are involved in smuggling illegal drugs, people need to ponder into the matter with all seriousness, Joykishan asserted.
He went on to question why the police officer who seized the drugs from Imphal Airport was transferred away and the Special Investigation Unit was disbanded soon after the seizure.
Joykishan said that BJP would launch agitation against the State Government for allegedly lending support to drug smugglers.
BJP Thangmeiband Mandal would launch the agitation from April 24, he added.
