RK Imo for permanent tourist infrastructure

MLA RK Imo today stated on the floor of the House that tourism industry can certainly propel Manipur on the path of economic development provided infrastructure for Sangai Festival which has now been officially given the name of tourism festival are developed on a permanent basis.
The maiden landing of an international flight on the opening day of this year's Sangai Festival at Tulihal Airport whereby Imphal airport was put on the international aviation map for the first time and presentation of the rich culture of Manipur to foreign tourists in the following days was a remarkable achievement of the State Government.
Highlighting the traffic snarls caused by organising Sangai Festival at Hapta Kangjeibung within the city perimeter which led to serious inconveniences to tourists coming from outside the State, RK Imo asserted that it would be wiser to develop permanent infrastructure for the annual event at an appropriate site.
Development of permanent infrastructure for the annual event can definitely boost the sick economy of the State, he added.
Responding to the motion, Chief Minister stated that the State Government has been hosting the Sangai Festival every year with Tourism Department as the nodal agency.
The Government has been looking for an appropriate site which can be developed as permanent venue for the annual festival, Ibobi said.
Such a project would not only be very costly but also needs the service of a reputed architect for such a project demands incorporation of traditional cultural elements of the land.
Nevertheless, the Chief Minister appreciated the MLAs proposal as genuine and logical.
