Newmai inspects seri farms in Imphal West

On the second day of his field visit, Sericulture Minister Awangbow Newmai visited the farms of the Seri beneficiaries (farmers) located at Kachikhul, Sangaithel, Tairenpokpi, Phayeng, Kangchup Langdeibung, Khurkhul Makha and Khurkhul Awang in Imphal West district today.
He was accompanied by Chairman Manipur Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board and MLA of Sekmai A/C Heikham Dingo, S Kunjakishore Singh, Director and other officers of the Directorate of Sericulture.
During the visit, the Minister interacted with the beneficiaries and heard their grievances.
He also inspected the works taken up by the beneficiaries including the mulberry plants planted in their farms.
Speaking to media persons, he expressed happiness with the work taken up by the beneficiaries of Imphal West.
Stating that the beneficiaries have folly utilized the fond allocated under the Integrated Sericulture Development Project (ISDP), he said it is really encouraging to see the hard work of the beneficiaries.
He advised the under-performing beneficiaries to folly utilize the fond allocated under the ISDP to generate income of their own.
The Minister further said that following his field visit in Imphal West and Imphal East, he has witnessed the problems faced by the beneficiaries directly.
He said he was happy to see new ideas incorporated by the beneficiaries while planting mulberry plants which can be promoted for awareness to the other seri beneficiaries for better production of the raw silk material.
He further said that after interacting with the seri beneficiaries he has felt that there is a need for discussion with the officers concerned to chalk out plans to provide additional help to the Seri beneficiaries.
Heikham Dingo, MLA Sekmai A/C said that it is a historic moment that the Minister concerned is directly visiting the farms of the Seri beneficiaries and addressing their grievances and was hopeful that the visit of the Minister will surely give new ideas to strengthen the Directorate in the near future.
He also stated that it is important to strengthen resource potential directorates like Sericulture so that unemployed people can be given a source to generate their own income as well as to generate revenue for the State.
Emphasizing on the development and increase of the output of Khurkhul muga, he said likewise it is also equally important to do the same in other specific areas of the State.
