Imphal, January 19, 2012:
Saying that candidates have been promoting and sponsoring extensive use of intoxicants among youngsters in their efforts to woo voters, the AMADA has called upon all to be wary of this unfolding trend.
In spite of the sustained efforts of AMADA and other social organisations which were aimed at sensitising and controlling abuse of drugs and intoxicants in the society, the ensuing elections has raised the rate of drug abuse in the society, said a press release issued by AMADA.
The AMADA even formed special task force to check drug abuse in the previous elections and this time too, there is a need to take up special measures.
It called upon all local clubs and Meira Paibi groups to forget their political affiliations and identify those people who have been working to submerge the society in a sea of drugs and intoxicants so that they can be taught befitting lessons.
Saying that revolution cannot be achieved without reformation, the AMADA called upon the people to know their true identity and work collectively for reformation of the degrading society.
Even as elected representatives were expected to take more pro-active roles in realising the needed reformation, AMADA said that they did not have any more faith in these representatives.
Rather, they have become disease of the society, it alleged.
It also hailed the recent intensive drive launched by special enforcement team of the Excise Department against intoxicating substances and liquor.
