Terakhongsangbi villagers draw government attention

Residents of Tera-khongsangbi village have drawn the attention of the government with regard to the presence of a camp of Kuki militants under So0 at Mang-hat village.
In view of the hardships faced by the villagers defending the village amid the ongoing ethnic violence, one W Inong of Terakhongsangbi Maning Leikai conveyed that the armed Kuki militants are continuously harassing innocent civilians.
Most recently, a commando of the Bishnupur district police was killed in a gunfight with Kuki militants at Tronglaobi, after which the militants at-tacked Terakhongsangbi village on three occasions.
On Tuesday around 10 am, shots were fired from Manghat village towards Terakhongsangbi but the para-military forces guarding the village did not retaliate.
In ad-dition, the number of paramil-itary forces guarding the area is not enough, he said, while requesting for deployment of adequate security in the area.
Furthermore, around 80 percent of the villagers are farmers and have been unable to go out to the fields due to the continuous threat and ha-rassment of Kuki militants.
As such, he urged the government to take up steps to put a stop to this unchecked movement of Kuki militants in the area.
