Pillion rider dies

A Manipur Rifle personnel has been killed at an accident that took place near Chingmeirong police outpost on the Imphal-Dimapur road at around 9.30 am today.
According to a police report, the deceased MR man (pillion rider) was coming on a Pulsar motorcycle (MN1M/4785) with another person towards Imphal when a Mahindra Jeep (MN01W/8900) hit from behind.
The victim pillion rider has been identified as 59-year old rifleman of 6 MR Jit Bahadur from Sekmai Shantipur Leikai.
He was rushed to RIMS Hospital but succumbed to head injuries moments later.
Jit's son-in-law Wanglemba Rupa, who was driving the motorcycle was unhurt in the mishap.
As per eye-witness account, the Pulsar motorcycle trying to avoid collision with an i-10 car that suddenly swerved from the other side of an open road-median put on the brake.
the jeep coming behind the motor-cycle also screeched to halt but skidded and rammed at the bike.
Jit is said to be nearing service superannuation and was coming to Imphal to process
retirement paper.
Driver of the jeep identified as Sapam Hema (30) from Khongjom Sapam Mayai Leikai has been taken into custody by the police while a case has been registered at Lamphel police station.
