After noting the points spelt out by Chief Minister O Ibobi during a meeting with tribal student leaders today evening, the All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur has decided to suspend its proposed indefinite total shutdown in tribal areas from October and instead give time till October 18. Speaking to The Sangai Express a well placed source said that during the meeting, the Chief Minister made it clear that he is for justice and added that within a period of two to three days the University Grants Co-mmission may intervene into the matter.
“I am not in favour of anyone,” said the Chief Minister but added that the State Government stands by the doctrine that justice should be delivered.
The Chief Minister also said that the State Government cannot intervene into the matter as MU is a Central University. “If needed I myself may personally go to Delhi to get the matter resolved”, said the Chief Minister and added that Education Minister Dr Kh Ratan Kumar is presently at Delhi urging the Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar to resolve the matter.
The Chief Minister also urged ATSUM not to go ahead with the proposed course of agitation in the interest of peace and the people.
Acknowledging the efforts of the State Government, the student said the proposed total shut down in tribal areas has been suspended and they will wait till October 18. However if there is no positive development, then they will go ahead with the proposed agitation from October 19, said the source.
