NIPCO foundation day held

The 17th foundation day of National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO) was organised at Keishampat Yumjao Lairembi community hall today .
Speaking as the chief guest, MB College Associate Professor, Dr Homen Thangjam said that it is high time for the indigenous people of the State to unite in the face of the current political scenario and the ever increasing threat of unchecked influx of Rohingya Muslims into the State from Myanmar .
The Panchayat Election is fast approaching and non locals are even contesting the election .
In places like Thangal bazar, non locals are becoming the majority.
The only method to save the indigenous people is for all the indigenous communities in the State to unite as one, he explained .
Speaking at the event, NIPCO president, Oinam Premjit, said that the foundation day has been organised along with a musical performance Rhythms of Unity (Apunba Eshiegi Tantha), with the aim of eliminating the disparity and mistrust among the diverse communities living in the State .
He further stressed on the need for clarification regarding the Framework Agreement signed between the Central Government and the NSCN (IM) and warned that if the Central Government and the NSCN (IM) try to come to an agreement which affects the interest of others, it will result in intense backlash.
The president of Indigenous Minority Organisation Manipur (IMOM), Medun Maring, expressed desire for the hill and the valley people to live together in harmony.
