Rs 15, 95, 900 collected as fines till date

State Excise Department has able to collect Rs 15, 95, 900 as State revenue after the announcement of election code of conduct for the forthcoming State Legislative Assembly election, conveyed State Excise Nodal Officer Irungbam Jatishwar who is also the DSP Excise Headquarters.
Talking to this daily at his office chamber at Lamphelpat today, Jatishwar said that as per the directive given by Election Commission of India (ECI) in connection with the ensuing election, the State Excise Department has registered 600 cases so far.
He maintained that the Department had formed a Special Enforcement Staff led by an officer from each of the districts and also appointed a Nodal Officer for every district.
The Department has been submitting daily report from each of the districts to the authority concerned, he said.
Jatishwar informed that the Department had arrested 600 people along with the collection of Rs 15, 95, 900 as State revenue.
The arrested persons were released after they were made to pay fines for the offences they committed, he added.
He further informed that the Department has seized and destroyed 19653.35 litres of local made liquor, 264.765 litres of Indian made foreign liquor, 71.4 litres of cane beer and 5.2 litres of wine.
Applauding police personnel of all the districts for their sincere support and drive against illicit liquor, he appealed to the people to extend help to the efforts being made by the Department for making the coming election free and fair.
