Imphal, November 11 2015:
Despite heavy security measures taken up ahead of Manipur Sangai Festival, unidentified miscreants exploded a bomb, suspected to be an IED, in a house at Mahabali Makha Leikai, around 100 meters away from the venue of the tourism fair, at around 8.30 pm today.
Owner of the house identified as Asiho Kahmei (60), a driver of Manipur police, received minor head injury in the blast.
He was rushed to Advanced Hospital but was discharged after receiving first aid.
The bomb exploded right under the wooden staircase of the house.
Half of the wooden staircase, main wooden entrance door, CGI sheet roof and other material kept inside the house were damaged in the blast.
Soon after the blast, a team of Imphal East district police led by Additional SP (Operations) Singhajit, Imphal East commando OC Achouba and Porompat police station OC Shantikumar rushed to the blast site for investigation.
It is yet to be ascertained how the explosive was planted inside the house.
Locals said that no outsider is allowed to enter Mahabali Khul after 8 pm.
Local elders man the entrance of Mahabali Khul daily, he said.
On the other hand, police expressed suspicion that the bomb might be an IED.
It may be mentioned that Imphal East district police along with Assam Rifles personnel have been conducting round the clock sanitisation drive in and around Manipur Sangai Festival venue since the past few days.
The State Home Department had called up 16 additional commando teams from Bishnupur and Thoubal districts to enhance security of the twin capital districts ahead of Manipur Sangai Festival.
