Moirang, May 11 2023:
Horri-fied by the series of grisly ethnic clashes taking place in Manipur since May 3, locals of Tronglaobi in Bishnupur district have appealed to the Government to deploy additional Central and State security forces in sensitive areas instead of making them stand on guard along Tiddim Road.
They also urged the Central Government to send more paramilitary forces to Manipur for deployment in highly sensitive areas.
Speaking to media persons, one of the locals on the condition of anonymity said that a fresh violence broke out between Meeteis and Kukis at Tronglaobi Terakhongshangbi Maning and Gelmol today after two days of slight calmness since the clashes broke out between the.
two groups on May 3 .
He said that Torbung was the epicentre of the chain of violence which has claimed the lives of dozens of people.
Saying that the locals of Tronglaobi have been guarding their village since the clash broke out by wielding whatever weapons they can round the clock, he said that they saw some people armed with sophisticated weapons descending from the neigh-bouring hillslope.
Claiming that the intruders started firing towards them shortly after , hesaid that the State force came ,to the rescue and exchanged fire with the armed people suspected to be militants.
Claiming that the Central paramilitary force didn't make it to the site of the encounter but instead kept standing along Tiddim Road, he alleged that the paramilitary force advanced some metres toward near the canal when the gunfight was ending and retreated back shortly after.
Saying that all the State forces have also gone back to their respective police stations for reporting in the evening before 4 pm, he maintained they are terrified as there are no security forces to guard them in late hours.
He then urged the State Government to deploy adequate security forces at Torbung, Kangvai, Phougakchao Ikhai, Kwakta, Terakhongshangbi, Tronglaobi, Moirang, Ngangkhalawai, Thamnapokpi, Naranseina, Sunusiphai, Phubala, Thinungei, Ningthoukhong, Potshangbam and other sensitive areas to protect lives and properties.
