Major Gen Rajeev Chopra has taken over as the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (S) from Major Gen UK Gurung during a ceremony held at the Hqs IGAR (S) today, said a statement issued by the PRO of Assam Rifles.
Maj Gen Rajeev Chopra arrived from New Delhi on June 6 to take over the new assignment and formal handing over of the baton was conducted today.
An alumnus of the NDA, Khadakvasala and a graduate of the National Defence College, Maj Gen Chopra has commanded an operational Brigade Headquarters in West Bengal and has held many distinguished command and staff appointments at all levels in the Indian army, said the PRO.
During his tenure here, Maj Gen UK Gurung successfully and effectively tackled the CI Ops and successfully worked towards making IGAR (S) the true 'Friends of Manipur' .

The outgoing Maj General and Mrs Uma Gurung were given a warm farewell before leaving Mantripukhri today, said the statement and added that during the farewell programme, Maj Gen Gurung appealed to the people of Manipur to participate in the peace process, hand in hand with the security forces.
He also expressed his gratitude to all sections of the people including the civil administration, Government of Manipur and members of the media for their unstinted support, constructive criticism and affection.
