Imphal, January 09 2017:
Pointing out their allegiance and loyalty to Congress party have been put in a confusing proposition after BJP MLA Khumukcham Joykishan joined Congress, Congress workers and supporters of Thangmeiband AC have sought a clarification from the Congress leadership of the State.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today in the presence of some senior citizens of Thangmeiband AC, Congress sympathiser Moirangthem Surendro said that they were confused whether the party ticket would be given to Jyotin Waikhom who have fought the State Assembly thrice on Congress ticket or Kh Joykishan who joined the party anew.
Admitting that both Jyotin Waikhom and Kh Joykishan are leaders of Thangmeiband Assembly Constituency, Surendro maintained that the Congress leaders should study thoroughly on who would be given the party ticket.
He also expressed keen desire for the party leadership to take a concrete decision after studying the ground reality.
The sudden entry of Joykishan was a sort of encroachment and it was an attempt to spark unwanted incidents among the people of Thangmeiband AC, he said.
Such an ugly situation can be avoided if the Chief Minister and other Congress leaders give an opportunity to senior citizens of Thangmei-band AC to discuss the matter jointly, Surendro said.
One Shijagurumayum Ibohal Sharma of Thangmeiband Thingel Leikai maintained that Jyotin Waikhom was the man behind reviving Congress party in Thangmeiband AC.
He went on to threaten that he would immolate himself if Congress ticket is not given to Jyotin Waikhom.
Even though Jyotin could not win in the previous elections, Congress party has a fair chance of winning Thangmeiband seat this time.
"Congress leaders are still saying that the party ticket would be given to Jyotin Waikhom.
In case the party ticket is given to someone else, I would self-immolate by pouring kerosene all over my body in front of the Chief Minister's bungalow", said Sh Ibohal.
Thangmeiband Congress Workers' Committee convenor Elangbam Joykumar who was also present at the press meet said that Congress workers of Thangmeiband AC would launch relay hunger strike at Nagamapal Phougeishangbam Leikai from tomorrow by groups of 100 people each.
