Imphal, September 08:
Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) has held the State Government squarely responsible for the failure to arrive at an amicable solution during the talks between Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and representatives of the Apunba Lup with regard to the demand for revocation of AFSPA from Manipur.
It is due to lack of sincerity on the part of the State Government that the talks became fruitless, president in-charge of MUSU Ksh Chaothoi said in a hard hitting statement.
The real intention of the State Government became clear when it reneged on its earlier assurances and started a crackdown on the representatives of the Apunba Lup and arrested MAFYF president Sapamcha Kangleipal despite having invited for the talks, he added.
Coming down heavily on the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers for remaining unconcern to the public demand for withdrawal of AFSPA, even after more than two months of agitation, Chaothoi asked what is the purpose of having an elected Government hi the State if the Chief Minister and the Council of Minister would not work in the interest of the people.
The present lot of Ministers care nothing about the welfare of the people, but to remain in power and amass wealth for themselves, Chaothoi alleged.
It is rather despicable, that the State Government is lobbying the Centre for more funds while the State is burning and the people are being subjected to all sort of atrocities, he said, adding that it amounts to staking the interest of the people.
