CCpur, June 08 2020:
The community quarantine centres run across the district for returnees amidst the global pandemic have of late raised the eye brows of the people even at the National level necessitating a revisit on how they are managed and run.
A couple of days back about three clips of quarantine inmates at Vimala Raina High School breaking into a couple dance surfaced on the social media with utter disregard for the quarantine protocols and physical distancing norms.
A day later an inmate at Churachandpur College QC escaped from the facility only to return 'repented' after spending a night at his home.
Last night (Sunday) at least two people were apprehended while trying to deliver banned substances to inmates of Silemat QC by the local COVID-19 task force.
While the Deputy Commissioner told a National media outlet that the dance events will be probed, the man who escaped for a night was instructed to quarantine at home along with the entire family members.
In fact, the village authority has issued a missive condemning the man's actions that has sent chills across the locality and instructed the family to admit their fault before them with all the required traditional rituals and fines after they complete their quarantine period.
The two people who were apprehended last night were sent to an institutional quarantine facility, to do their own time.
Against all these backdrops, double-digit positive cases from a single quarantine facility came today raising serious concerns on the conformity of protocols inside the quarantine facilities in the district.
NKT Jr High School, Khawnpui alone has seen 11 positive cases in the last 24 hours while the twelfth case is an Andhra returnee from QC facility at Singngat sub-divisional hqtrs.
There are about 36 inmates, all Delhi returnees, at the Kawnpui facility.
Meanwhile an official involved in overseeing the QCs expressed his desire to see the district police or the Social Welfare Department to set up a special QCs for people with records of substance abuse.
In fact, some CSOs manning the QCs told The Sangai Express that they have to seek medical help to manage inmates with such record and arrange detox for them.
All QCs cannot however afford such treatment.
Thus, there is every likelihood of the quarantine protocols being breached.
With twelve new cases today, Churachandpur now has 46 positive cases.
Nearly half of them are however are said to have recovered.
