Lamka, March 08, 2014:
Parliamentary Secretary Vungzagin Valte whose name was recently found deleted from the electoral roll alongside a district council member and several others today said it would be wise for voters to validate their names during the Election Commission's special camp across all polling stations tomorrow.
The Election Commission has on the day of announcing the Lok Sabha poll dates said it will hold special camps across the 9.3 lakh polling booths in the country on March 9 to enable eligible voters to verify their names in the electoral rolls and apply for registration if not enrolled already.
Once a victim, Valte during an informal interaction with the media said one should be aware of his or her rights and see to it that their names are not removed without any basis, especially for those whose names are deleted alongside his.
He added that the EC has been petitioned to take the case to its logical conclusion and whether or not that happens will however rest on the Commission.
It is not the first time that mass deletion of names had cropped-up in the district, he recalled and claimed that one should be given a notice and then given a chance for hearing before any deletion.
He along with those on the deleted list this time has neither of the opportunity, he said.
CCpur police is said to have registered an FIR on the case.
Valte was meeting a bunch of his supporters to explain to them that he has already compiled his second year progress report, as had been the case in his first year, but will not be in a position to publish them now due to the election model code of conduct.
He told them whether to club his second and third years report or to publish them after the poll will depend on the wishes of the people.
