Imphal, October 07 2016:
Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) President Weapon Zimik met Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on October 3 to seek his assistance in constructing a market complex-cum-international guest house at the heart of Ukhrul town at Wino Bazar.
Informing this in a statement, TNL said that the idea of the project is to create opportunity for the local youth entrepreneurs and to promote indigenous products in the market.
The international guest house will aim at providing subsidized accommodation for those villages located at the far flung international border villages on either side of India and Myanmar.
Further, the guest house will house villages’ heads and representatives who come to Ukhrul town for various village welfare related work.
During the meeting Minister gave verbal assurance to provide all necessary assistance to the proposed project and advised that the work is carried out in collaboration with the district representatives.
Later in the afternoon the TNL president met Joint Secretary Satyendra Garg, Ministry of Home Affairs NE Affairs) and highlighted the grave concerns of the hill people of Manipur including the ongoing movement that started after the passage of three controversial Bills last year.
Weapon Zimik opined that the root cause of various problems in the State lies with the undemocratic structure of the State Assembly.
The very instrument which strengthens the democratic processes in the country by means of adopting the principle of proportionate representation was not followed in the State, pointed out Weapon Zimik and questioned the moral political right of conducting election in Manipur without conducting Assembly Constituencies’ delimitation exercise.
Unless, the Assembly is democratized how can any Bill passed in the Assembly be said to be ethical and democratic, he questioned.
Satyendra Garg on his part accepted the deep divide between the hill and valley people and added that much of the solution to the existing problems will lie on the final settlement between the Government of India (GoI) and National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) .
