Protests against the killing of Th Manorama Devi and demanding withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur spread to Meghalaya today with residents and students from that State staging a dharna here.
The dharna was organized by the Joint Action Committee of Shillong Manipuri Students Union and local Manipuri residents at the gates of the Manipur House here.
They also protested the killing of pastor J Khongsai, who they claim-ed was allegedly killed by Assam Rifles on July 7. About 150 agitators demonstrated with banners bearing slogans like �Remove Armed Forces Act�, �Punish the Culprits�, and �We stand with our brethrens in Manipur�.
S Thokchom, a member of the Joint Action Committee, said the body would observe a protest day on August 13 to coincide with �Manipur Patriotic Day�.
Thokchom said they would e-mail a memorandum of their demands to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with a copy to Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and extend support to the agitation in that state.
