Imphal to host India, Myanmar conference from June 9

Imphal, June 07 2019:
With a view to strengthen bilateral relationship under the Government of India's Act East Policy, a three-day India-Myanmar conference would be held at Imphal from June 9 .
Notably, in order to develop a strategic vision for Manipur under the Act East Policy, an MoU was signed between the State Government and India Foundation, New Delhi on May 10, 2017 .
Subsequently, India Foundation organised the North East Development Summit at Imphal in 2017 in collaboration with MIDA.
India Foundation is the main organiser of the three day conference which would be held at Classic Grande under the theme 'Connecting India's North East with North West region of Myanmar : Road Map for all round prosperity' .
A 19-member delegation of Myanmar led by National League for Democracy (NLD) leaders and Magway Region Chief Minister Dr Aung Moe Nyo would take in the bilateral conference.
The Myanmar delegation would also include three NLD MPs.
They would be accompanied by five representatives of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), Myanmar Ambassador to India and the Second Secretary.
Mizzima Media Editor-in-Chief Soe Myint, India-Myanmar Airways International Country manager Sanjay Jha, Air KBZ's Myat Myat Tun and Myanmar-India Border Trade Chamber of Commerce Chairman Hla Muang will also attend the conference.
29 delegates would represent India at the conference and they will be led by Governor Dr Najma Heptulla.
The Indian delegates include DoNER Minister Dr Jitendra, Chief Minister N Biren, BJP National General Secretary and India Foundation's board of governors member Ram Madhav, Deputy National Security Advisor and Naga peace talk interlocutor RN Ravi, NEC Secretary Ram Muivah, Indian Ambassador to India Saurabh Kumar and Assam Rifles DG Lt Gen Sukhdeep Sangwan.
The Myanmar delegates would visit Commonwealth War Cemetery, Kangla, Manipur University, RIMS and Imphal city.
They would also go to Loktak Lake for sight seeing.
The conference would feature two sessions on 'Physical Connectivity: The Infrastructure Deficit' and 'Connectivity: The Way Ahead' .
The Myanmar delegates would leave Imphal on June 13, sources informed.
