Centre nod to housing list Releases first instalment for 9 towns

Ministry of Urban Development has approved the beneficiary list of 18 towns of the State under the Pradhan Mantri Awaj Yojna (PMAY) of the Central Government and has also released the first instalment of the funds to the State Government for 9 towns.
According to an official source, the scheme aims to provide pucca housing facilities to people with inefficient or inadequate housing conditions by the year 2022 .
The Ministry of Urban Development has approved the beneficiary lists of 14 towns out of the total 27 towns in the State.
Around 15,955 houses will be constructed under the mission at the towns, namely Thoubal Municipal Council (2927), Kakching (1519), Nambol (1330), Moirang (2127), Ningthoukhong (1316), Bishnupur (1035), Kakching Khunou (956), Wangjing Lamding (711), Jiribam (349), Sugnu Municipal Council (367), Samurou Nagar Panchayat (1236), Lilong Imphal West (1206), Lamshang (855) and Heirok Nagar Panchayat (222) .
It stated that 40 percent of the funds have been released as the first instalment by the Ministry to the State Government's account for nine towns namely Kakching, Jiribam, Sugnu, Lamshang, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Wangjing, Kakching Khunou and Lilong (Imphal West).
Under the scheme, the beneficiaries will be provided Rs 1.5 lakh by the Government of India and the remaining expenses will be borne by the beneficiaries who are free to increase or decrease their investments as they deem fit, it added.
It pointed out that the housing locations of the beneficiaries approved by the Ministry have to be geotagged and added that 3000 beneficiaries have been geotagged already.
The costs for building the foundation of the houses have to be produced by the beneficiaries themselves and only after they produce proof of the foundation can they avail the sanctioned first instalment (Rs 60,000) through the Urban Local body.
The time limit for constructing the houses is 2 years.
Speaking about the remaining beneficiary lists yet to be approved by the Ministry, the source pointed out that the Urban Local Bodies will be notified to give the beneficiary lists by September.
The lists would be finalised and sent to the Ministry by December, it added.
Around 42,612 houses are planned for all the 27 towns in the State by the year 2022 .
