The JAC formed in connection with the killing of Leimapokpa Amuba (25) @ Arun from Wangjing Hodamba has claimed that Haobam Rajen and his son, an IRB personnel, Haobam Rakesh from Wangjing Wangkhei are responsible for the said murder which occurred yesterday in an election related violence.
The JAC has further stated that the deceased's family will not take back the body until the father-son duo are apprehended.
A sit-in-protest was organised today by the JAC at Wangjing Irawat Lamkhai which saw a huge turnout of women protestors.
The protesting women initially met at the local ground in Wangjing Hodamba Maning Leikai, close to the residence of the deceased and proceeded towards the sit-in-protest site at Wangjing Irawat Lamkhai market.
They also shouted slogans such as "We condemn the killing of Amuba", "Punish the killers" and "We want to live in peace" among others.
A protesting woman by the name of Tekcham Binasakhi shared to media persons that Amuba and his friends had made their way to Wangjing-Wangkhei to appeal to the people of the locality to conduct the election in a smooth and peaceful manner.
As the group drew closer to Haobam Rajen's residence, the father and son duo took turns shooting at Amuba and the latter received three gunshot wounds, she stated.
She further informed that Amuba was an honest and hardworking day labourer and has left behind a wife and a young child.
Under such unfortunate circumstances, she added that the body will not be taken back until the killers are apprehended.
Tekcham Romenkanta, JAC co-convenor, also informed the forming of ''JAC against the brutal killing of Leimapokpam Arun alias Amuba Singh'' and added that Tekcham Bimol has been appointed as the convenor along with the selection of 10 more members.
He shared that the JAC will submit a list of demands to the Chief Minister, local MLA and Thoubal DC in connection with the killing of L Amuba.
The demands of the JAC include, punish the father-son duo as per the law, to banish Haobam Rajen and his family from Wangjing and to ensure that L Amuba's family is properly compensated as well as given an appropriate Government job.
The JAC also resolved to file an FIR at Thoubal Police Station.
The JAC cautioned that if their demands are not met then they, with the support of the people, would launch a string of agitations.
