Imphal, May 05 2013:
Strongly condemning the torching 36 houses of Silent village by the villagers of Seijang village, All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) has said that it is high time for all the communities of the State to sort out differences amicably without resorting to random destruction of properties.
ATSUM called on the people of different communities to stay away from violence and bloodshed to bring peace and tranquillity.
While expressing profound sorrow at rendering numerous people homeless where 36 houses were razed to the ground, ATSUM appealed to the Government of Manipur, especially Tribal and Hills Department, to extend maximum relief to the victims.
ATSUM further said that the union would stand as a watchdog and never negotiate with anything that is detrimental to the interest of the tribal people of Manipur.
Although, the bone of contention between Silent and Seijang villages was over a portion of land, ATSUM said that the matter could be amicably resolved as a case pending in the Court.
Flexing muscles and using arms in the era of global village is primitive by nature, the students' body observed.
