Many suggest reducing checking exercises

Imphal, September 04 2016:
Many citizens have expressed keen desire for lowering the frequency of checking passenger vehicles by police, TCP and Motor Vehicle officials.
Commenting on the ongoing campaign of The Sangai Express on traffic management and traffic congestion at Imphal city, one Inaocha of Thoubal urged the authorities concerned to check passenger vehicles only at specified places.
Around 18 Tata Magic vans operate between Thoubal and Imphal on daily basis.
But their number swells considerably when one reaches Lilong, Kakwa and Singjamei.

These passenger carriers are not allowed to move past Secretariat.
They are diverted from Yaiskul towards Keishamthong and Wahengbam Leikai which severely aggravates traffic congestion between Keishampat and Wahengbam Leikai.
Passenger vehicles are not allowed to move past the Secretariat because of traffic congestion there.
But the main factor for traffic congestion along the road passing in front of Secretariat are the rows of vehicles parked along the road, Inaocha said.
He then urged the authorities concerned to arrange an alternative parking space.
All the passenger vehicles operating on Mayai Lambi, Tiddim Road and those diverted from Imphal-Moreh road through Keishamthong merge between Keishampat and Wahengbam Leikai thereby multiplying traffic congestion.
In addition, people travelling from Thoubal to Imphal are delayed considerably as the vehicles are checked at four/five different places.
Passenger vehicles travelling under BT Flyover are checked as soon as they reach the western Kangla Gate.
The vehicles would be checked for the second time at Hatta/Checkon.
They would be checked again at Sanjenthong.
Checking passenger vehicles multiple times in a day by police, TCP and Motor Vehicle officials separately is too much, Inaocha decried.
He appealed to the State Government to let only one agency check passenger vehicles at some specified places.
Meinam Rashid Ahmad of Yairipok Tulihal said that passenger vehicles operating between Yairipok and Imphal are checked multiple times starting from Ngairiyan foothills.
They are again checked at Kongba.
It appears that police are doing the duties of Forest officials as well as Excise Department.
It seems many other Government departments are functioning under Police Department, Rashid said.
