Hunter rumoured to have been killed by AR caught with meat of wild animals

A day after unprecedented rumour about two hunters being killed by Assam Rifles had thrown security officials and the people in tizzy, one among the two hunters in question was caught by the police today along with meat of a wild animals.
Khamkhanlal (37) along with his friend Mangmuanlian (35) were rumored to have been killed by the Assam Rifles on March 29, the day they were out for hunting.
The rumour that sounds convincing yet that lacks facts and evidences has reportedly kept the police as well as the Assam Rifles in a fuss till late yesterday besides the local media and the public, forcing police to launch an inquiry.
As the police team headed by Additional SP Balram Singh began a probe into the incident, they soon learnt that one of the two hunters in question arrived in town along with their catch, stack of dried monkey meat and fresh deer meat.
The police took him to custody and upon obtaining his account it was confirmed that the duo had a field day in the jungle, with two kills so far and his friend was still camping in the woods to continue their hunt.
Addressing the press at his office chamber today, SP Churachandpur K Kabib appealed to one and all to refrain from spreading any form of rumour.
The SP nevertheless vowed to crackdown on those rumour mongers, who he said were of late creating nuisance in society using internet.
As for the hunter in their custody, he said the law would take its own course and he would be duly booked under the Wild Life Protection Act.
Khamkhanlal, who was produced before the media along with the wild meat seized from his possession told The Sangai Express that he heard his friend, who is still in the woods, fired a round hours after they parted ways at around 4am today.
He added that he was hopeful of another catch when they meet again on Monday.
