Imphal, December 02 2016:
Chief Minister O Ibobi has assured that Thongkhong Lakshmi Bazar Nagar Panchayat and Samurou Nagar Panchayat would be upgraded to the status of Municipal Councils before the election code of conduct comes into force.
He was speaking at a one day political conference held today Thongkhong Lakshmi Bazar under the aegis of Wangoi Block Congress Committee.
He stated that the State Cabinet would adopt a decision to upgrade the two Nagar Panchayats to the level of Municipal Councils within the next couple of days.
Even though Congress ticket could not be given to MLA O Lukhoi during the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly, he is now within the fold of Congress party, Ibobi stated.
He then appealed to the gathering to vote for the candidate who is given Congress ticket in the forthcoming State Assembly election.
Soon after BJP came to power at the Centre, they promised to bring back all the black money stashed in foreign countries and deposit Rs 10 lakh each in the bank accounts of common people.
The BJP Government demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes after they failed to bring back black money, and the common people were forced to deposit whatever money they had in hand in banks, said Ibobi.
With their sectarian policies, the BJP Government has been scheming to create a chaotic situation in the State.
People ought to be wary of such sinister policies, Ibobi continued.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam stated that because of people's faith and confidence in Congress party, there has been a stable Government in the State for the past 15 years and the State witnessed significant development in different sectors.
MPCC president TN Haokip, MLA N Loken, MLA Fazur Rahim and MLA O Lukhoi too spoke at the political conference.
