Imphal, September 01 2016:
A month long birth anniversary celebration of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot was kick started today at Irabot Bhavan here under the aegis of the Irabot Celebration Committee and the Manipur Loumi Lup.
The opening function started with offering of floral tributes to Irabot.
CPI State Secretary Dr M Nara, State secretariat member L Iboyaima, deputy secretary L Thoirel, State secretariat member A Lala, Manipur Loumi Lup president N Singhajit, All Manipur Nupi Marup president M Shakhi and comrade Moirangthem Ibohal who was once associated with Jananeta Irabot attended the function as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Nara said that the month-long birth anniversary function of Lamyanba Irabot would be held in different parts of the State, neighbouring States as well as in Bangladesh and Myanmar.
He said that the present generation need to walk on the footpath of Irabot towards unity.
Lamyanba Irabot was of the firm belief that development can be achieved when only when there are unity and mutual respect.
It was Hijam Irabot who spared Manipur from the proposed Purvanchal Pradesh.
Pointing out that Manipur had a distinct history, Irabot vehemently opposed the Government of India's proposal to form Purvanchal Pradesh after merging some North Eastern States in 1948 .
Dr Nara called upon the gathering to pledge collectively to fulfil Irabot's dreams of unity and self-reliance.
Manipur exists as a State today because of Irabot's struggles and sacrifices.
He further called upon all the people of Manipur to pledge once again to protect the integrity of Manipur under any circumstances.
Manipur Loumi Lup president N Singhajit decried that the Government of India has not come up with any positive response despite the All India Kishan Sabha's repeated appeals and reminders to implement the recommendations of the National Food Commission.
Although the recommendations were approved by the Parliament in 2007, the Central Government has not yet initiated a single step to implement the recommendations.
He further accused the incumbent NDA Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as unsympathetic to the interests of farmers.
