12th Handloom Day observed

With the distribution of various handloom awards, Handloom Promotion Council Manipur (HPCM) observed the 12th Handloom Day at Gandhi Memorial Hall today.
Commerce and Industry Principal Secretary O Nabakishore, HPCM President H Rajendra Singh and OSD of Commerce and Industry Department, M Rajen were the chief guest, president and guest of honour of the function.
Speaking at the occasion, O Nabakishore announced that 1860 handloom worksheds would be set up in the State for which necessary work proposal has been sent to the Central Government.
Speaking on the promotion of handloom products, he said that entrepreneurs in particular and general public in general must take keen interest in enhancing production and promotion.
H Rajendrakumar while giving his speech stressed on the need to implement a proper handloom policy in the State.
OSD M Rajen mentioned the need of bringing change in the production and marketing strategy of handloom products.
35 outstanding weavers were felicitated with citation and cash prizes in the function.
Temple of Learning, Mem Higher Secondary School and Shantilata Memorial School were also feted for adopting handloom items as school uniform.
Panthoibi Handloom Award 2011 was conferred to Ningthoujam Ibocha Singh of Kha Sanjenbam of Bishnupur district.
