KRA army chief shot dead

The army chief of Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) was shot dead by some unidentified persons along with one of his bodyguards last night at his residence located at Lhungtin village, Saikul sub-division, Kangpokpi district.
Some unidentified persons barged into the house of KRA army chief Janggin alias Jamkhogin alias Andy alias Jetlee (45) s/o Tongpao at around 10.30 am yesterday and shot him dead together with his bodyguard Lamginlen Hangshing (20) s/o Hellal of Tingpibung.
Bullet marks were seen at the chest and belly of the self-styled army chief and his head was partially blown off while his bodyguard bore several bullet marks at his belly, said a police source.
However, the assailants did not harm Janggin's wife and two children, informed a source.
Lhungtin is just around 500 metres away from Gamnom where there is a designated camp of KRA.
According to the locals, indiscriminate firing sounds echoed in the entire area at around 10.30 pm which continued till almost late midnight.
Nobody could ascertain what was happening in the middle of the night but every one was in deep anxiety as gun shots were heard everywhere.
Saikul police and 38 Assam Rifles, Saikul post along with Saikul CSOs reportedly rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation and it was only when they could navigate through the village, the bodies of the KRA leader and his bodyguard could be recovered.
The Kuki Revolutionary Army is also under tripartite talks with the Centre and the State Government under the umbrella of Kuki National Organisation (KNO) .
While a case has been registered at Saikul police station in connection with the incident, police have brought the corpses to RIMS mortuary.
Post mortem of Lamginlen's corpse has been completed at RIMS but Janggin's corpse is yet to be examined.
However, both the corpses have been transferred to JNIMS morgue as the freezer of RIMS mortuary is not working, added the source.
