One more Covid death recorded; toll stands at 355

Imphal, December 31 2020:
The State recorded one more COVID-19 death and 51 new positive cases during the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 355 .
A press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang informed that a 77 year old man from Bishnupur district succumbed to the virus at RIMS.
The spokesman also informed that 51 persons including three personnel of CAPF were tested positive for the virus at JNIMS, RIMS, Imphal West, Maipakpi Hospital, Shija Hospital, Raj Medicity, Tamenglong, Bishnupur and Babina Diagnostics.
The 48 civilians who have been tested positive are residents of Imphal West (24), Imphal East (9), Thoubal (1), Bishnupur (10), Tamenglong (3) and Senapati (1) .
All of them are locals who do not have any significant travel history.
On the other hand, 77 COVID-19 positive people were discharged during the last 24 hours from CAPF (1), home isolation (52), JNIMS (11), RIMS (5), Lanva (2), Kakching (3) and Shija Hospital (3) .
The cumulative number of positive cases is 28,188 (general population 24,808 and Central security personnel 3,380) .
This figure includes 1,155 active cases (general population 1,027 and Central security personnel 128) and 26,678 discharged cases (general population 23,430 and Central security personnel 3,248) .
The recovery rate as on Thursday is 94.64 per cent.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) today dispatched dry ice needed for transporting swab sample of the student who returned from the UK recently and had been tested positive for coronavirus.
In order to ascertain the virus strain which has infected the student, his sample would be sent to Pune for necessary laboratory test.
With dry ice now available, the sample would be sent to Pune via Delhi on January 2.In the meantime, the 22 family members of the student who were tested for coronavirus have been found negative.
