Ukhrul, May 26 2011:
Peeved with prolonged negligence over infrastructural requirements in the lone college of the district, Students' Union of Pettigrew College (SUPC) has locked the office room of the Principal since yesterday.
Talking to The Sangai Express in this regard today, general secretary of SUPC MK Miya asserted that the Principal has failed to redress the grievances of the students despite repeated appeals and prayers.
Demanding immediate transfer of the Principal from the college, other representatives of SUPC also alleged that many students of the college have not been able to appear in their examinations as the Principal's office did not give adequate number of days for submission of examination form at the time of issuing the notification.
They pointed out that the Principal's office issued the notification on November 10, 2010, announcing November 13 as the last date for submission of examination form without fine and November 17 with fine.
On lack of basic infrastructural requirements in the college, the agitated student leaders pointed out that there is no toilet facility.
Moreover, there is acute shortage of lecturers in the college, they added.
All these issues and the problems being faced by the students of the college have been brought to the notice of the Education Minister through submission of numerous memorandum in the past.
But there has been no change and improvement in the college, they lamented.
The students' union has also demanded conduct of regular classes in accordance to UGC provisions with facilities for UNC network research centre-computer, free remedial coaching for ST/OBC students, career guidance and counselling cell, regular payment of stipend to the selected ST/SC students from BPL families, coaching classes for entry into competitive examinations for SC/ST/OBC/Minority students and conduct of study tour every year.
