Hearing completed, verdict awaited

Case hearing regarding the killing of 1528 persons by security forces in alleged fake encounters in Manipur has been completed and the Supreme Court's verdict is awaited.
Speaking to media persons at their Kwakeithel office today, Human Rights Alert (HRA) executive director Babloo Loitongbam said that the case was going on at the Supreme Court since 2012.The final round of case hearing was held on April 22 this year.
Senior Advocate Colin Gonsalves of the Human Rights Law Network and late advocate Mukul Sinha took active roles in fighting the case and it was supported by the people of Manipur.
While conveying gratitude to all the people who supported and assisted in fighting the case, Babloo said that both HRA and the Extra Judicial Execution Victim Families Association Manipur (EEVFAM) are eagerly awaiting the apex Court's judgement.
Babloo said that an FIR should be registered based on the complaints of the families of the 1528 people who were allegedly killed in fake encounters.
This should be followed by a thorough investigation, he added.
If the Government is not upholding the rule of law, one should go to Court, he said and asserted that no security personnel has the authority to violate rights of civilians.
