Retired Judge Asok appointed as Assam's SCDRC President

Former Gauhati High Court Judge Asok Potsambam has been appointed as the President of Assam State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
He will assume office as the new President of the Commission on August 1, official sources said.
The Governor of Assam, in exercise of power conferred by provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, appointed him to his new post.
The appointment letter dated July 6 issued by the Principal Secretary of Assam's Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department said Potsagbam will assume charge for a term of five years or up to 67 years of age, whichever is earlier.
A resident of Khagempalli Pankha, Ashok Postsangbam (63) completed his LLB degree from Delhi University in 1974 and practiced law as a lawyer since then till he was appointed as Judge of Gauhati high court on September 17, 2007.He had been serving as Manipur Advocate General for seven years in three different governments and President Rule.
Ashok Potsangbam, who retired as Gauhati High Court Judge in April this year had also been serving in different capacities as a lawyer � senior Central Government standing counsel of Imphal Bench, legal advisor to different nationalized banks and standing counsel of State Public Works Department.
Being a President of the Commission, he will enjoy similar status with that of a sitting High Court in terms of salary and travelling allowance and other amenities as admissible, the sources said.
