Imphal, April 23 2018:
"True friends of the hill people are brave soldiers of Assam Rifles with a heart of gold" is an adage commonly spoken by the locals in the Samtal salient.
This came true yet again when19 Assam Rifles of 28 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) operationalized a 5 KVA Solar Power Plant in Sehlon village thereby ensuring that the village gets electricity for the first time since independence.
The tears of joy beaming in the eyes of the village elders were testament of this fact.
Sehlon village is situated in isolated exteriors of Chandel District which has no electricity, road connectivity and basic amenities.
Although the village was being supplied with electricity from the generators of 19 Assam Rifles, the Kakching Sector envisaged the idea of setting up a solar power plant for making the villagers self-reliable in terms of electricity.
After continued efforts and perseverance of troops of 19 Assam Rifles, all the 26 houses in the village were electrified.
The momentous occasion was accompanied by stationary distribution to the school children of village Sehlon.
A ray of hope has been kindled in the hearts of the local population which exudes a belief that electrification of the Samtal salient is not a distant dream any more.
Rightly so, the villagers of Sehlon have expressed their heartfelt gratitude towards the Assam Rifles for having enlightened their lives.
