Imphal, September 22 2018:
HERICOUN has demanded immediate release of all the students and teachers of Manipur University arrested by police.
Speaking to media persons at their Palace Compound office today, HERICOUN president Longjam Ratankumar categorically asserted that detention of students and teachers cannot bring any solution to the protracted MU crisis.
The State Government cannot shirk away its responsibility even though the Ministry of Human Resource Development must take the primary responsibility of resolving the crisis, Ratankumar said.
He also expressed keen desire for MU community to forget what has happened but focus on the future so that normalcy is restored at MU at the earliest.
The fresh turmoil which is rocking MU at present resulted from the attempt of Pro-VC Prof K Yugindro and Registrar in-charge Prof M Shyamkesho to take charges of their offices and objection to the same attempt.
HERICOUN believed that the State Government was keeping a close tab on the MU crisis with an intention to resolve it but the massive search operation carried out inside MU campus on, September 21 night and September 22 evoked a number of questions, Ratankumar said.
HERICOUN secretary general Y Surjitkumar said that they condemned the massive search operation carried out by police inside MU campus.
The brutal crackdown evokes a strong suspicion that the Government intends to marginalise the ongoing enquiry against Prof Pandey and take the issue to a different direction, Surjitkumar said.
