Sit-in staged against alleged extortion of money on NH-37

Alleging that some miscreants were extorting money and were also forcefully unloading delivery items from the vehicles plying on NH-37 at Nungba in Tamenglong district, a sit-in protest organized by Jiri Ima Keithel Chaukhat Thourang Lup (JIKCTL), Jiribam was staged at Jiri market today with the demand to stop such illegal activities in the interest of the women vendors who are looking after their families with the profit they earned from selling the items transported from Imphal.
Speaking to the media persons on the sideline of the protest, N Khumanlei, Gen Secy JIKCTL strongly condemned the act of collecting money from the passenger vehicles running on NH-37 which is going on since the last one week while urging the people involved to stop such unlawful activities which has the ability to spread hatred among the different communities.
She also drew the attention of the Govt to look into the matter at the earliest.
S Sushila Devi, president JIKCTL said that most of the women vendors of Jiribam are making their ends through the earnings they got from selling the products brought from Imphal.
She vehemently denounced the incivility of some ruffians on NH-37 and appeal them to stop it at the earliest before the public of Jiribam resort to violent agitation.
One of the protesters, Salomi Rongmei, Namdailong demanded immediate halt of such illegal activities that is hurting the income flow of the women vendors of Jiribam.
