Over 10,000 line up for return to Ukhrul, Kamjong

Ukhrul, May 19 2020:
Compelled by the Nationwide COVID-19 triggered lockdown and the resultant loss of jobs, many young people from Ukhrul and Kamjong districts who were outside the State and earning a living in different cities of the country, have returned home while many more are lined up to return in the coming days.
About 11,000 young Tangkhul people working in different cities of the country have registered their names to return home as living away from home at this juncture is just not possible for them now, without a job.
There are students too studying in different cities of the country.

Around 500 persons have already returned and are in quarantine centres of Ukhrul.
The returnees are presently quarantined at Pettigrew College, JNV Lambui and Patkai Christian Academy Shangshak, Ukhrul and many of them have been there since May 11 .
Most of the returnees are from Karnataka, Meghalaya, Assam, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Nagaland, West Bengal, Mizoram, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Punjab, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh etc.
All the returnees were also thermal screened at Bakshi ground Hungpung, Ukhrul before they were sent to the quarantine centres.
According to Ukhrul control room, another eight quarantine centres for 44-AC, Ukhrul have been requisitioned for the accommodation of those who have lined up to return.
It is informed that over 600 persons are on the way from Hyderabad alone.
With the increasing number of returnees, the district administration is preparing the centres on a war footing to accommodate the incoming persons and ensure that all the quarantine centres are equipped with basic amenities as per the guidelines of standard operating procedures of Covid-19 .
So far, there is no report of any Covid-19 case being detected from Ukhrul district quarantine centres.
