Imphal, April 17 2020:
Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India (CPI) has appealed the State Government to bring back students stranded in various cities across the country.
In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister N Biren Singh today, the State CPI highlighted that many stranded Manipuris including students are facing immense hardship due to the current Nationwide lockdown to contain coronavirus outbreak.
"Being stranded, our students are staying in unconducive circumstances while they are confronting COVID-19, economic hardships and scarcity of food.
Racial discrimination has also fallen upon them," said the party appealing the State Government to take up concrete measures and special arrangements with the Centre to bring them back to Manipur.
The memorandum also shed light on the issue of water scarcity and failing agricultural sector in the State amidst the coronavirus scare.
There is likelihood of water scarcity in the State as almost all water bodies have dried up and pre-monsoon rain is yet to set-in.
In view of such a grim situation, the State should take up measures to store water from all available sources and supply the same to every household free of costs, said the party.
Besides providing food and essential items, agricultural workers/farmers should be exempted from the purview of the lockdown effectively and enable them to work in their fields, added the party.
MSC CPI also appealed Chief Minister N Biren Singh to convene an all party meeting at the earliest to create cohesive and collective efforts in fighting COVID-19 outbreak.
The collective efforts and struggle of all the political parties in the State is the need of the hour to contain the dreaded pandemic COVID-19, it said.
