A high level committee with chief Secretary as the Chairman has entrusted Law Department to consult Gauhati High Court for setting up of Holiday court to facilitate expeditious disposal of pending cases in the State.
It is informed that the committee at meeting on May 9 held to deliberate on the 13th Finance Commission award discussed on the issue of Holiday Court and consequently recommended the Law Department to take up the matter with the Gauhati HC.
The Department representatives were specifically advised to prevail upon the Court for relaxation of its condition that there should be atleast 2000 pending cases for setting up Holiday Court and to set the specification at 200 cases.
The Committee also took serious note on the failure to utilise funds earmarked for morning/evening shifts of relevant courts.
Another issue taken up for discussion by the Committee related to utilisation of the fund provided by the Central Government for the School Education Department with compliance to the Department's Action Plan and subsequently directed the Department authorities to ensure submission of utilisation certificate of Rs 3 crore provision to the Finance Department within the current month.
