The "19th Protest Day Against the Divisive Policy of Government of India" held yearly on June 14 was observed at Kwakeithel Bazar Community Hall under the aegis of AMUCO (All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation) today.
Speaking about the protest, AMUCO president Nando Luwang recalled that the India Government had signed a cease fire agreement with the NSCN (IM) and effected it from 1997 August 1.Strongly opposing the 'divisive' move, AMUCO had organised a mass rally on August 4 (1997) .
The Government of India, again on June 14, 2001 had signed another agreement with the NSCN(IM) in Thailand and inserted the word "without territorial limit" in the ceasefire agreement.
Following the extension of the cease fire, AMUCO with people of the State had launched stringent protests and subsequently, 18 brave souls lost their lives on June 18, 2001, he said adding the protest (June 14) is held every year since to remember the June 18 incident.
AMUCO is with the people against any divisive policy in North-East India, particularly in Manipur, he said.
