Police fine 237 SOP violators, Rs 89,650 collected as fines

Imphal, May 13 2021:
The Police Department fined 237 SOP violators today and collected a sum of Rs 89,650/- (eighty nine thousand, six hundred and fifty only) as fines.
Imphal West continued to see the maximum number of violators with 102 followed by Bishnupur and Thoubal with 59 and 49 respectively.
The Police Department continued the crack down on violators of guidelines and restrictions issued by the State Government and the State Disaster Management Authority in connection with COVID-19 pandemic, including failure to wear mask in public places, failure to maintain social distancing in public places, spitting in public places, etc.
to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the State.
The Police Department warned that those who violate the SOP shall be dealt with strong legal action under National Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other appropriate laws.
The Police Department has collected a sum of Rs 2,03,17,760/- (Rs two crore, three lakh, seventeen thousand and seven hundred sixty only) as of today.
Despite the increase in penalty for SOP violators and various restrictions imposed by the Government in order to contain the spread of the virus, the public continues to break the guidelines.
