Imphal, April 12 2016:
Following the Mayang Imphal incident where more than 30 people were hurt and around 10 houses/shops were set ablaze after bandh supporters clashed with another group of people at Mayang Imphal Bengoon yesterday, the JAC constituted in connection with the death of Md Farooque Khan, Md Saddam of Lilong Turel Ahanbi Kaleikhong and inflicting grievous injuries to Md Zamir of Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai has asked why innocent students were mercilessly killed.
The JAC and United Manipur Muslim Women Development Organisation held a joint press meet today at Hatta.
Speaking to reporters, co-convener of the JAC Ataur Rehman said that if the deceased students were the actual thieves who stole the vehicle, people of Mayang Imphal should have handed them over to the authorities concerned and asked why they had taken the law in their hands.
He further stated that the allegations made by the JAC constituted by the people of Mayang Imphal against the JAC of Lilong that they have been defending the alleged thieves is baseless.
He alleged that the JAC of Mayang Imphal is trying to cover up the dirty deeds of killing innocent students.
The authorities concerned should apprehend the culprits at the earliest and severe punishment should be awarded, he demanded.
To prevent communal passion from spreading, the State Government should take up steps to defuse the tense situation.
On the other hand president of United Manipur Muslim Women Development Organisation Anwari Noorjahan alleged that personnel of the State force is acting against a particular community and it is very unfortunate.
Such attitudes of the police could aggravate communal tension among different communities settled in the State.
She further urged the CSOs to extend their help in bringing a peaceful solution to the issue and added that the State Government should device a policy to prevent such incidents in future.
It may be mentioned that 27 persons who were injured in the clash was admitted at Noor Hospital, Lilong and 17 persons at Public Hospital, Imphal where eight of them are said to be in serious condition.
