Ukhrul pitches for honourable Indo-Naga peace dialogue

Ukhrul, Aug 11: The Tangkhul Longnao Joint Tangkhul Civil Organization today organized a mammoth public demonstration in support of the ongoing Indo-Naga peace dialogue between Government of India and NSCN-IM.
People from different walks of life took part in the peaceful public demonstration held at eight different points of the town under the theme, 'Indo-Naga Cease Fire or Cease the Cease-Fire'.
The public put up banners and shouted slogans like, 'we want immediate Indo-Naga solution', 'we want honourable solution', 'stop militarization' and 'make peace not war' etc.
Chandel MLA Victor Nunghlung personally visited Ukhrul showing his solidarity with the people of the town.
He visited all the areas where public gathered for demonstration along with UNC Vice President Tonsing Worngam, TNL President Artax, ANSAM President and others.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the public rally, the MLA said that he is happy to see the prevailing peaceful situation.
Even though the State Government has deployed additional State forces, no confrontation between public and police and no harassment from police has been reported so far, he added.
He would personally request the State Government to remove the prohibitory order and withdraw additional State forces from the town, Victor said.
The police today made a public announcement using loud speakers in the town at around 8 in the morning not to organize any public gathering/rally etc as the town is under prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPc.
Despite the announcement, public dared to demonstrate from 11 am to 1.30 pm.
Around 42 localities including the neighbouring Villages Shirui, Langdang, Choithar, Lamlang, Seikhor, Shimtang, Faling Aze and Faling Ato took part in the demonstration showing our solidarity and support for amicable solution said TS Zimik, Tangkhul Headmen Association General Secretary.
Meanwhile, a press conference was held at TKS office (Tangkhul Student Body) wherein Tangkhul Headmen Association General Secretary TS Zimik, General Secretary TKS A Vashum, ANSAM President Seth Shatsang along with other leaders took part.
TS Zimik said that promulgation of Section 144 CrPc and deployment of additional security forces are attempts to sabotage the Indo-Naga peace process.
He said that any solution without considering the uniqueness of Naga history is not acceptable.
