World Population Day : Health Min calls for collective responsibility to check population growth

Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar Singh has said that collective responsibility is necessary to check fast population growth in the country .
Speaking at the State function on the observation of World Population Day at the Manipur State Film Development Society Auditorium today, the Minister said that developing countries like India need population control.
Population growth gives more negative impact.
The poor suffered more in the countries where there is fast growth of population .
The Minister also spoke on the concept of population explosion which may come in the near future if efforts are not made to control the fast increasing population in time.
He further said that making the society strong and healthy will also help check population growth.
The concept of might is right has become obsolete which can not be implicated in the present days, the Minister added .

Attending the function as the president, Director Health Services Manipur K Lokendro Singh said that mere observation of World Population Day will not fulfil its aim and objectives.
Education and awareness to the masses regarding the menace of population growth will help check population growth, he added .
Today's function was attended by Director Family Welfare Services Manipur Dr K Rajo Singh and Additional Director, Health Services, Manipur Dr H Ranjit Singh as the guests of honour.
Doctors, nurses, Heath Department officials and staff, nursing students and others also attended the function .
A rally was also flagged off by Health and family Welfare Director to mark the occasion from Hapta Kangjeibung gate .
Meanwhile, District Family Welfare in collaboration with District Health Society, Senapati celebrated World Population Day, 2017 in a function organised at DRDA Conference Hall, Senapati today.
It was organised under the theme "Be Responsible Partners for making Plans of a Family" .
Addressing the function, MM Markson, Chairman, ADC Senapati said that he is committed to population control through family planning and birth control.
He also emphasised on the role played by the ASHAs and asked them to bridge the gap between doctors and patients .
Delivering her keynote address, District Immunisation Officer, Dr Sokha said that India is expected to be World's most populous country by 2022 overtaking China.
Emphasising the need for family planning and birth control in the present society, she elaborated on the danger of population explosion to the environment, increase of poverty, scarcity of food and water and increase in unemployment .
She also explained the solution of over population through family planning methods like vasectomy for men and tubectomy for women as a permanent method and implant, IUD, pills, vaginal ring, shots, patch, diaphragm, condom for male and withdrawal of rhythm methods, etc.
She further appealed the gathering to create awareness among the public .
In his speech, Dr Loli, CMO Senapati said that World Population Day started under the aegis of UNDP Governing Council in the year 1989 to stabilize the world population.
He explained that family planning is not only birth control but also planning regarding marriage, children, grandchildren, etc.
He opined that for successful family planning, gender equality is necessary and both the partners should take active role.
He also explained the need for empowering the youths and creating awareness through proper education .
ADC Members, DLOs of all departments, MOs, ASHAs and SDWA of Senapati District also attended the function.
