Imphal, April 10 2013:
Announcing boycott of the visit of President of India Pranab Mukherjee to Manipur on April 15, the Coordination Committee (CorCom) of six UG groups namely KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, PREPAK-Pro, RPF & UNLF) has called a 26-hour general strike in the whole of Manipur with effect from 6 am of April 15 to 8 am of April 16 .
In a statement signed by its Media Coordinator H Poirei, CorCom stated that the proposed visit of the President of India, who is the Supreme head of Indian Army, to the State on April 15 is just a way to persuade the people of Manipur with some so-called developmental packages so that India can re-affirm its colonial hold on the state and its people.
Ever since Manipur became a part of Indian Union, India government has been putting its best efforts to wipe out the traces of a well-developed economy instead of developing the productive forces of the state.
The Indian Security Forces under the leadership of the President have also been oppressing the people of the state and ensuring that they do not get the Basic Human Rights and Basic Human Needs, CorCom contended.
In such a situation, it would be meaningless for the people of Manipur to welcome the President of India, CorCom stated while announcing that a 26-hour general strike would be called in the whole of Manipur starting from 6 am of April 15 till 8 am of April 16 to boycott the visit of the President of India.
However, medical emergency, religious ceremonies, water supply, media, electricity, fire services and other essential services would remain out of the purview of the general strike, CorCom added.
