Imphal, December 09 2016:
The Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) has negated the claim of BRO that the Barak Bridge had been fully repaired.
Speaking to media persons at their MG Avenue office today, TDC president H Ranjit said that loaded trucks would not cross the bridge and transporters will keep their hands off the steering wheels until the bridge is properly repaired.
He demanded that befitting action should be initiated against the 1st MR CO and Jiribam Addl SP for leaving out a number of loaded trucks at Jiribam while escorting some trucks toward Imphal on December 7 .
A letter sent by the BRO Executive Engineer (EE) to the Tamenglong DC and Works Commissioner on December 5 said that they would need four days' time to repair Barak Bridge.
Later, BRO said that they would repair the bridge on December 8 and 9 .
Meanwhile, in defiance of the DGP's order, the 1st MR CO and the Jiribam Addl SP escorted some oil tankers and trucks loaded with cement while leaving out a large number of trucks loaded with essential commodities in the name of the unfit bridge, Ranjit said.
Even as the TDC pointed out that there was no problem with Barak Bridge, the Chief Secretary and the Police Department did not believe the TDC.
It appeared that the State Government has been dancing to the tune of the BRO, he said.
Though there may be no problem with Barak Bridge, TDC would suspend transport service until the condition of the bridge is inspected, Ranjit said.
He further demanded that the BRO EE should be arrested and booked for misleading the Government and the people of Manipur .
Questioning why a large number of trucks were taken outside the State if they should be abandoned beyond Jiribam, Ranjit said that TDC would suspend transport service until the Government comes out with a clarification.
