Imphal, February 09 2021:
Demanding removal of the garbage dumped at Khwairamband Temporary Market shed and early arrangement of their vending place, women vendors took out a rally today.
The irate vendors of Temporary Market attempted to storm the Assembly, however their endeavour was cut short near Congress Bhawan due to police intervention.
Speaking to journalists, advisor of Road Side Street Vendor Association Kh Ibetombi said that the Government dismantled their makeshift structures on the assurance of building a new market shed for them.
However, the same assurance which was given in the pre-Covid days is not yet put into action, she rued and asserted that the Government should no longer remain silent over the issue.
Ibetombi said that the street vendors even pressed their demand to the Chief Minister even during the lockdown period but to no avail.

Some Ministers assured of establishing the market shed within a certain date, however, their assurances have also turned empty, she said and questioned if the Government is toying with the emotion of the street vendors.
"Our vending place has turned into a dumping site today due to prolonged negligence of the Government," she said and asked how long the Government is going to watch truckload and truckload of waste being dumped at the site.
Urging the Government to clear the garbage and set up the promised market shed at the earliest, she said that the vendors will start setting up makeshift structures from Thursday if the Government doesn't show any tangible sign of building the market shed by tomorrow.
She also appealed to all to stop parking vehicles and dumping waste at once and take responsibility for all eventualities if their request is ignored.
