NCP gears up for Assembly election

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has declared that they would be fielding their own candidates in most of the Assembly segments of Manipur which is likely to go to polls early next year.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, NCP National secretary cum spokesperson Narendra Verma said that they fielded 22 candidates in the 10th Manipur State Legislative Assembly election held in 2012 and they garnered 7.25 per cent of the total votes case which was only next to Congress party.
NCP would fight the forthcoming election on the planks of employment generation, empowerment of women and resolution of the insurgency issue.

NCP is opposed to communal political parties like BJP, said Narendra Verma while informing that they forge alliance with like minded political parties for the State Assembly election.
NCP has the maximum number of MLAs in Maharashtra under senior leader Sharad Pawar and the Northeastern region has the second highest number of NCP MLAs.
In the last Assembly election of Meghalaya, NCP allied with Congress.
On being enquired about absence of NCP MLA at the press meet, Narendra Verma informed that MLA L Ibomcha is the president of NCP Manipur unit.
MLA L Ibomcha has expressed his intention to leave the party yet he ought to attend meetings where party matters are discussed. Ibomcha's intimation to resign would NCP should be discussed by the party's top leadership, Narendra Verma added.
